April Fool’s Day – Great Historical Hoaxers

The Times has published a list produced by the ODNB of great historical hoaxers, including ‘Grey Owl’ (aka Archibald Belaney), the fake Amerindian conservationist (sorry, he was a real conservationist, just a fake Native American.) Which reminded me that Belaney, author of such tracts as ‘King of the Beaver People‘ was the subject of a poorly-received bio-pic directed by Richard Attenborough and starring Pierce Brosnan, mainly memorable for how many times film reviewers could make gags out of the word beaver.
